Climate & Environment

Work towards increased city and community action for the city’s highest-emitting sectors: buildings and transportation
Increase retrofits in city buildings to mitigate emissions and achieve operational savings
Expand and preserve city tree canopy
Support the creation of more places to cool off in extreme heat and water absorbing infrastructure planning and preparation
Support the creation of a permanent Household Hazardous Waste depot in Ottawa

Add more public bathrooms and get existing park bathrooms open more often
Continue advocating for the expansion of ANCHOR so that more residents can access mental health supports and receive urgent mental health crisis response across Ottawa
Extend operating hours at Sunnyside library in consultation with OPL workers
Continue working towards a resolution to the noise disturbance at The Clemow
Continue pushing for a revised Noise Bylaw to more proactively address harmful environmental noise in future developments

Rein in mega project and P3 debt spending to focus on repairs to existing infrastructure, including paving and improving local roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, and intersections
Improve the speed of implementation for road safety measures such as speed bumps, flex stakes, signage, and more
We have had 30 full street renewals in Capital Ward in the last 8 years with many more to come. These must improve safety while considering feedback from neighbours to improve these projects.
Accomplish short term safety improvements for Bronson Avenue
Complete the Bank Street Active Transportation study and pilots
Continue safety improvements and enhancements on Bank Street and associated intersections
Review the Safe School Streets project at Hopewell for effectiveness
Complete a parking strategy review in the Glebe

Improve access to the Rideau River, including improved swimming access
Expand Glebe Memorial Park
Establish funding and renew the Windsor Park Fieldhouse
Ensure the Old Ottawa East Community Centre and Forecourt Park get built to meet the needs to residents
Continue to work towards a future revitalization of Brewer Park
Ensure that Lees Field is preserved for the community’s enjoyment while supporting a not-for-profit housing development
Expand 3-stream waste service to all parks in the ward
Continue to add new park amenities, including benches, signage, bike parking, play structures, and more
Support the Rideau Winter Trail as it now connects up with Carleton University/Vincent Massey with the newly winterized pedestrian bridge

Create a full public developer by expanding Ottawa Community Housing in order to build public housing on public lands
Build more co-op & not-for-profit housing in Ottawa, including advancing projects on city owned land at Bank & Chamberlain, 160 Lees Ave, and 185 Hawthorne Ave
Continue to push for increases to the city-wide affordable housing budget. Ottawa requires another post-war style not-for-profit housing investment from all orders of government instead of simply relying on tax subsidies to for-profit developers
Protect existing affordable units and tenants through both a new housing acquisition fund and a new Demoviction Bylaw, which we have directed staff to undertake
Continue to push back against costly and environmentally damaging urban boundary expansions

Continue expanding free transit for youth 18-and-under, and fight to reduce fares for all residents
Continue pushing to increase bus service and reliability in Capital Ward, building off improvements to the 6, 7, 10, and 18
Secure new bus shelters for Main Street and Bank Street at Lansdowne Park
Support the establishment of a permanent bike share in Ottawa

Establish a new governance and financial oversight model for Lansdowne Park
Highlight and push to address the tax disparity being paid by residents within the greenbelt who subsidize new construction on the periphery of the city
Change governance of city committees to be more representative of the regional communities being served with more accountability for elected representatives
Continue to be a vocal opponent of risky, expensive mega projects such as the Tewin development

Ensuring the illegitimate fare increases to the U-Pass proposed by the city do not move forward without student votes
On campus collaboration on transit route frequency and that students in residence have full access to safe transportation options
Off campus student housing options with continued push to lower rents for apartments
Ensuring the new pedestrian bridge over the Rideau River remains open all winter long and connects to the Rideau Winter ski trail
Support the new pool in collaboration with other orders of government

Increased road safety measures for the Tulip Festival and debriefs with city staff
Accomplish short term safety improvements on community streets
Proactively address traffic impacts due to the Civic Hospital
Bring 3 stream waste bins to Eugene Forsey Park and continued investment here
Oversight on development in the area to ensure resident views and concerns are heard and acted upon by the city
Continued excellent service to DLRA

Build more co-op & not-for-profit housing in the ward, including advancing the project at Bank & Chamberlain
Continue working towards a resolution to the noise disturbance at The Clemow
Continue pushing for a revised Noise Bylaw to more proactively address harmful environmental noise in future developments
Secure a new bus shelter at Bank Street at Lansdowne Park

Set in place more stringent Heron Park property standards and enforcement
Continue addressing persistent flooding through road and sewer adjustments
Make sure Confederation Heights has affordable housing, transportation plans, and adequate transit
Complete the new contra flow bike lane connecting up with the brand new community centre
Get Heron Road repaved
Finish Bank Street construction to Heron with new multi-modal and safe transportation
Continued excellent service to HPCA

Ensure the Old Ottawa East Community Centre and Forecourt Park get built to meet the needs to residents
Secure a new bus shelter at Main Street
Investigate and work with city staff and residents on Combined Sewage Overflows at Brantwood Park
Preserve Lees Field for the community’s enjoyment
Build more co-op & not-for-profit housing in the ward, including advancing projects at 160 Lees Ave
Advocate for the Clegg St footbridge and expansion of connectivity in Old Ottawa East
